PALLY SEND THE DOGS PACKING
Thursday, 3rd June 2010
Palmyra scored an impressive 36-13 win against Wanneroo in round 8 of the first grade competition. Wanneroo fronted up with a massive front row combination but that proved to be their undoing as Pallys greater mobility and fitness came through in the second half.

The first half was tight and physical and a number of scoring chances went begging including a try to Harley Davidson that momentarily made him look like a legend but was disallowed for an earlier infringement reported by the touch judge. Some good tackling went in as Wanneroo had a higher percentage of possession. Scotty as usual punching above his weight in the tackling department.

Things werent clicking and a repeat of the previous few weeks was unfolding. Silly kicks and stray passes were in abundance and it was not a good look for a team of this calibre. One of the few shining lights was the Pally lineout which smoked Wanneroo all day long.

Hummer played a cracker of a game at LH prop and absolutely sorted his opposite number out which is no small feat given the guy was at least 130kgs.

Dalboy went off early with an ankle injury and hung out with the physios for the rest of the day. He was replaced at half back by Jimmy who was the next smallest guy on the team and he put in a top game that earned him Man of the Match.

The second half was a different story as the combinations started to work and the Pally running game took over. Tries then started to flow and the last 20 minutes became a waterfall with tries to Leka, Liam, Razor, Nate, Karl and with a flash of yellow boots Maia got one in the corner.

A satisfying result in the end leaving the team lodged in 3rd place on the ladder. No room for complacency though as we play 2nd placed Cottesloe and 1st placed Nedlands in the next two rounds.

Lees Second Grade outfit had a big 66-15 win over Wanneroo and enjoyed a day out in the sunshine. Seconds are shaping up to be a quality team and are playing at a high level. Lets hope they can keep building and havent peaked too early.

Third Grade similarly enjoyed the conditions and stacked on 41 points to Wanneroos 12 and seem to be striking some form at last. Its a good feeling isnt it lads

Fourth Grade scampered away to a comfortable lead and then had it pegged back before pushing away again to finish 29-20 winners over Wanneroo in a game that featured 9 tries and some entertaining running rugby that was enjoyed by both the spectators and the respective reserve benches made up of aging gentlemen and a few ring-in twenty something year olds.

U20s had a tougher day at the office losing out 10-26 in a bit of a disappointing effort given the superb performance the week before. Should be an opportunity to get some confidence back next week against Curtin.

U18s had a solid 17-0 win against Wanneroo and should be proud of the way they are shaping up.

Next week all teams are away to Cottesloe except for U20s who play Curtin Uni at Curtin.
