ROUND 9 DOWN AT THE SEASIDE
Thursday, 10th June 2010
Most Pally senior teams travelled to Cottesloe for the Round 9 fixtures on 5 June.

In a replay of last years Grand Final the final score was 22-22 with Pally scoring 3 tries to Cotts 1. Terriffic finishing by Jonny Alston resulted in 2 tries and Karl scored a satisfying first try. At 22-10 up it looked like Pally would chalk up a win however referee John Hill would have the final say.

The forwards played well and got on top in the scrums as the game wore on with Hummer once again dominating. Karl was outstanding in the loose. Razor was a handful when he had the ball in hand.

The backs played patches of scintillating football but were forced to defend in our own half for much of the second half as the sound of referee Hills whistle resonated around the ground and provided the penalty shots required for Cottesloe to draw level.

Disappointing result given the momentum we had in the first half however we remain 3rd on the ladder and well placed leading into the second half of the season. On a positive note this was the first game this year where Pally started well and took the initiative and with it the momentum from the kickoff.

Seconds played a tight game and very nearly pulled off a win losing out 18-22. Fraser led by example and was awesome in the pick and drives. A most confused performance by referee Daylen Waetford did not help the flow of the game but Pallys biggest letdown was allowing 3 soft tries in in the first 20 minutes giving the opposition a gift 17 point lead. From there the lads played spirited and quality rugby and nearly dug themselves out of the hole. If a couple of shots at goal had been converted we could have won it.

Third Grade had a close encounter with Cottesloe and had their chances. Final score 10-18.

Fourth Grade pulled a shocker out of the bag going down 0-35 and playing a very uncharacteristic brand of rugby. Get it together lads you are still in the hunt for a finals berth. Coach Paul will no doubt give the team an earful at training.

U20s were away to Curtin Uni and had a big 73-0 win which helped boost the percentage as well as team morale. The boys kept their structure according to coach Justin with only a few lapses of white line fever. Shorty picked up a hat trick of tries and Gannon played his best game of the year.

U18s played the competition leaders Cottesloe and were very competitive for the 1st half matching them for skill and physicality. The second half got a bit ugly and the lads did not cover the fringes allowing 5 or 6 soft tries in. A bunch of missed tackles did not help. Coach Brian is back from next week so hell sort these issues out. Spirits remain high in the team which is a good sign.
