Tompkins Park Redevelopment Update

By Palmyra Media

On the 21st May, the City of Melville Councillors voted 7 to 6 in favour of a motion to delay the re-development of Tompkins Park

On the 21st May, the City of Melville Councillors voted 7 to 6 in favour of a motion to delay the re-development of Tompkins Park and to conduct an independent review of the process to date.

Palmyra Rugby Club has been working with Council staff and Associate Members over several years and have firmly maintained our club’s position that we welcome any form of redevelopment that does not affect the financial position of the club or the playing grounds and social enjoyment of our members as was promised by the City of Melville at the start of this journey.

The review is due to take place in the lead up to Council Elections being held in October this year. Once the review is completed and recommendations made to council, we will then understand what the next steps will be for the Tompkins Park Redevelopment
We understand that with the recent developments surrounding the Wave Park, that reviews need to take place and we will continue to work with Councillors and Council Staff during this period.

During this period, our position will be to ensure we have a financially stable club with premium playing grounds, clubhouses and amenities that support our large senior and junior players and members.

We are pleased to have a firm position from the City of Melville regarding redevelopment dates which means that we can continue to work hard as an association, to run successful functions at the club which financially benefit the club and its members.

We encourage all members who are planning social, work, personal functions to contact the centre management and learn what fantastic benefits there are to utilising our clubhouse for your next event.

We also encourage our members to contact their local councillors and understand their position surrounding the Tompkins Park redevelopment in the lead up to local elections in October.

For further information please don’t hesitate to contact the club
