Barry came to us as a raw 20 year old second rower from Belfast Northern Island in the early 80’s. He played several seasons for the Club. He was a big aggressive forward on the field as was the style for second rowers in the 80’s but reverted to being a gentle giant after the game. Barry gave the Club excellent service. He was affectionately known as Bazza or Barry Belfast to his mates.
After leaving Palmyra Barry travelled to South Australia where he was selected in the South Australian State Team and played against the All Blacks and . He then went to Darwin where he joined up with Bob Norman and played for South’s Rugby Club. From their his travels took him to New Zealand where he played for three years with the Bombay Club and Auckland Marist. He then returned to Northern Ireland and moved to where he played the 1987 season for Perpignan before sustaining a bad injury which caused his retirement from serious rugby.
Barry is now a Police Sergeant in Derry, Northern Island.
